2. This Museum is Huge – Bring a Stoller
This history museum is very large with 3 levels covering 42,000 square feet. Block out a good chuck of time to fit it all in. You could easily spend a full day.
This building stands tall on the east bench overlooking the whole salt lake valley. It is a beautiful view!
3. Special Exhibitions
Right now (March – May 27th 2019) they have the “Maya: Hidden Worlds Revealed” Exhibit. It is for limited time only and then it will be replaced by other type of exhibit.
The Maya Exhibit has many fun things for children to do like building blocks that emulate how the Mayan’s would build. They have an interactive personalized section that converts your birthdate into a
4. Permanant Exhibitions
They have 11 exhibits that are permanent at the Natural History Museum of Utah that are available to see year round. They include:
- Sky
- Native Voices
- Life
- Land
- First Peoples
- Gems and Minerals
- Great Salt Lake
- Past Worlds

As you can see, there is a lot to do at this amazing Museum. Once again, you can easily spend a full day there.
5. You Can’t Eat in the Exhibits
Eating is prohibited throughout the museums so I would suggest feeding your kids before they come. They will definitely need the energy and you don’t want them to get hungry. If they do get hungry, it’s still ok because they do have an eating area that is outside of the exhibit sections. You can pack lunches and eat them there.
6. They have an awesome Cafe
Wow, the Cafe at the Natural History Museum of Utah is so delicious! This cafe is located next to the eating area with many tables and chairs. They have gourmet dishes and more simple kids meals. Everything tasted so good.
We ordered the Capri Sandwich and the Pizza. I would recommend them to anyone! This cafe also has choice deserts that are to die for. My boys loved the sugar cookies, and of course, I did too.
7. Bring an Extra Shirt for your Children
They have a water splash pad type of exhibit that my kids could not get enough of. They spent a lot of time playing in the water which made them a little wet. So my suggestion is to pack an extra set of clothing to enjoy the rest of your stay. (Or you could have your kids do that activity last.)
